If you ever find yourself in a competitive scenario, it can be easy to psyche yourself out of opportunities if you don’t have a strategy for how you can succeed. Here’s a strategy you can apply in a wide variety of competitive environments and get yourself on the desired shortlist.

👉🏽 Follow up

Let’s take sales calls for example.

2% close on the 1st call
3% close on the 2nd call
4% close on the 3rd call
10% close on the 4th call
81% close on the 5th call

Guess how many salespeople make it to the 5th call?

10%

In fact, 48% of salespeople quit after the 1st call.

This is the same in email marketing. Send one email to 5,000 people and 5 might take the action you want. Send five emails to a list of 5,000 people and 1,250 people will take the action you want (provided, of course, that they are interested in what you are asking).

What I know about most experts and professional service business owners is that marketing/sales are often their least favorite activities. Therefore, it’s easy to fall into this 90% group.

The good news is that there is a solution:

👉🏽 Follow up

At least 5 times.

If you’ve done that, then you’re in the top 10% and are likely to see an increase in sales equivalent to your increase in output.
